Labels, management companies, PR agencies and industry professionals follow the same eight-stage shape, tuned to their own work instead of an artist's: a label builds and then understands its roster before establishing label authority; a management company connects its roster, assesses artist readiness and builds career proof; a PR agency connects its clients, assesses client readiness and demonstrates real campaign proof before operating its own press desk. The stage names change. The principle does not: every step reflects something real about the profile, not a fabricated milestone.
The EV Signal
The chart is the Signal
The EV Signal is a continuously updated measure of credible momentum around an artist and their music. It is not a lifetime popularity score and it is not a payment tier. It answers a practical question: who is creating the strongest trustworthy movement on Exposed Vocals right now?
Each eligible artist or video receives a Signal position within the charts for which it qualifies. Number one has the strongest current EV Signal in that chart. The order can change as new votes and activity arrive, older activity decays, suspicious patterns are discounted, and other artists build momentum.

What the public sees
- Chart position: a clear ordinal rank such as #1, #12 or #87.
- Signal status: Building, Rising, Breaking or Sustained.
- The chart and time window: for example Rising This Week, Alternative Rock, New Voices or Northeast.
- A short factual explanation such as "Strong verified vote growth and broad new engagement this week."
- No fake precision, secret purchasing advantage or permanent celebrity lock-in.
What the artist sees privately
- The strongest and weakest Signal components.
- Movement by time window and eligible cohort.
- Validated votes and engagement trends without exposing individual voter privacy.
- Confidence or eligibility warnings when data is incomplete or under review.
- Recommended next actions based on real gaps: complete the profile, connect the official video, add current release data, respond to genuine engagement or update professional intent.
Signal statuses

How the Signal algorithm works
EV explains the system without publishing the exact weights or fraud thresholds that would make it easier to manipulate. The calculation follows a consistent sequence:
- Capture. An eligible event is recorded: a verified video vote, Signal, reply, Echo, share, follow, save, profile view, music-video action, release action or other approved interaction.
- Associate. The event is linked to the correct canonical artist, video, release and authenticated actor. Legacy usernames never become a second public identity.
- Validate. EV confirms the event shape, origin, eligibility, unique identifier, timing and permissions.
- Deduplicate and trust-weight. Repeated, self-generated, automated, coordinated or low-confidence activity is ignored or discounted. Distinct trusted participants carry more meaning than raw volume.
- Aggregate. Valid contributions are grouped into rolling windows and Signal components. Recent movement is compared with the artist's own baseline and the relevant cohort.
- Rank. Eligible artists or videos are ordered within the relevant Signal Chart. The chart position is the public EV Signal rank; #1 is the strongest current Signal.
- Distribute. Stronger eligible Signals receive more opportunity to appear across Watch, Discover, feeds, chart modules and recommendation surfaces—subject to diversity, freshness and safety controls.
- Explain. EV generates a short public reason and a more detailed private component view for the artist.
Fair opportunity for developing artists
EV does not compare every artist only by lifetime totals. Rolling windows, cohort eligibility and baseline-aware momentum allow an emerging artist to rise when their current response is real. A larger account may have more total activity, but a smaller artist can still build the strongest current Signal within a genre, region, career stage or emerging-artist chart.

Signal Charts and music-vote charts
Verified music-video votes now feed the EV Signal instead of acting as the only ranking factor. The resulting charts express the full Signal. Historical vote data can remain visible as a factual count, but chart position is determined by the complete validated Signal model. Professional matches are still calculated independently from chart strength.
How EV fights spam and artificial momentum
A chart is valuable only when the activity behind it can be trusted. EV treats every ranking input as an event that must pass identity, duplication, timing and abuse checks before it can influence the Signal.

Authentic does not mean surveillance
EV uses the minimum data needed to validate activity and operate the platform. Public charts show rank, status and understandable reasons—not private voter identities, device fingerprints, fraud thresholds or personal contact data. Artists receive aggregate analysis. Industry professionals receive decision-useful context that respects visibility and contact permissions.
Matchmaking: relevance after discovery
A strong Signal answers "Who is creating credible momentum?" Matchmaking answers a different question: "Who is relevant to whom, and why, right now?" EV keeps the experiences connected while keeping the calculations independent. Signal rank, Signal status, votes and chart position are not matchmaking inputs. An artist at #1 and an artist at #500 receive the same match treatment when their professional fit is identical.
Exposed Vocals uses reciprocal, explainable matchmaking. Artists state what they are looking for. Professionals state what they represent, accept and need. EV recommends a connection only when the important facts align.

What a match card explains

EV does not show a decorative compatibility percentage. It shows the facts that created the recommendation. Users can view the profile, follow, save, pass or request a mutual connection.
Follow, Connect and contact are different

What EV does not claim
- A strong Signal does not guarantee a deal, stream, placement, booking, press result or commercial outcome.
- A match is not an endorsement or a promise that either side will respond.
- Verification confirms reviewed identity evidence; it is not a quality award and cannot be purchased.
- Paid EV services can create real professional assets, but the purchase itself does not add ranking or match relevance.
- Synthetic test data used on staging is never presented as live audience traction.

Commerce without hidden advantage
WooCommerce remains the commercial system of record and PayPal remains a payment rail. EV Core translates a completed purchase or subscription into the exact entitlement or fulfillment workflow the customer bought. Payment can unlock a product, tool or professional service. It cannot buy Signal points, chart position, verification, a favorable review or a better professional match.
Privacy, control and accountability
- Users control which professional intent, contact and availability fields are public.
- Private contact data is stored separately from public profile data.
- Connection, roster, claim and verification changes are auditable.
- Mute, block and report controls affect discovery and contact as defined by safety rules.
- A disputed identity or suspicious activity can be held out of charts, matching or contact while reviewed.
- Legacy BuddyPress member pages do not serve as public profiles. Canonical EV profiles own public identity.
- Thin or unclaimed identities can be excluded from indexing, charts and matching until they meet eligibility requirements.

Can I pay to rise the charts?
No. Payment never adds Signal points or directly changes chart position.
Does a strong Signal change my professional matches?
No. Matchmaking is a separate system based on reciprocal intent, role, genre, territory, stage, readiness and availability. Signal rank, votes and chart position do not affect match eligibility or order.
Can a new artist compete?
Yes. Rolling windows, cohort charts and momentum relative to recent baseline give developing artists a fair route to visibility.
Why did my rank change?
The Signal updates as valid activity arrives, old activity decays, cohort eligibility changes and suspicious activity is discounted or reviewed.
What is public?
The public sees chart rank, Signal status and a short factual explanation. Artists receive more detailed private component analysis.
What is EV Verified?
A reviewed identity state. It is not for sale, is not a quality award and does not add ranking or matching advantage.
What happens to old member pages?
Public identity resolves to the canonical EV profile. Legacy community data may remain internally for compatibility and migration, but BuddyPress is not the public profile experience.
